About ISVEd 2020

Every educational institution needs to renew the paradigm in the implementation of education. It is needed to overcome the high competition between the graduates and labor market expansion on practical areas or vocation in all sectors, agriculture included. The emergence of academic revolution will encourage every graduate to has distinguished and specific competencies to match the need of agribusiness and agroindustry.

Academic revolution marked by disruptive innovation, which materialized by the rapid technology advances. All sector of activities, centered on the use of technology, specifically the adoption of computers and automation. This significant transformation is called Industry 4.0. While some of us might still confused about how to respond to it, others are changing and adapting their system and method to prepare the future. One of the respond that occur regarding this revolution is society 5.0. It is a super-smart society where big data, internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) and robots fuse into every industry and across all social segments. This is where agricultural vocational education takes action.

Vocational education prepared young generation to be ready for working field with specific competencies. Being the educational center for agriculture under the Minister of Agriculture, we have responsibility to help emerging graduates who are competent and competitive. Information, issues, and technology are spread among scientists, practitioners, private sectors and policy makers. For that reason, we initiate International Symposia on Agricultural Vocational Education 2020 aims to obtain information and knowledge with organizing discussion forums for problem solving in vocational agriculture education and adjust with the agriculture 4.0. and society 5.0.

Symposia for ISVEd 2020

There are three main topics to be discussed in these international symposia, which will be packed in a symposium. These three topics enable the involvement of participants with various disciplines.
1. Millennial Agrotechnopreneur
In facing developments in the industrial era 4.0, Indonesia needs to accelerate technological transformation and innovation. In addition, in fulfilling human resources 5.0, it is necessary to prepare and encourage millennial youth to develop smart farming that increase productivity, added value and regional competitiveness as well as being able to utilize digital technology in seizing global markets. However, the problems that occur, there are still age of agricultural actors (aging agriculture), low interest and assessment of the younger generation of agriculture (under value), and high labor migration to the non agricultural sector. Solutions to these problems include (1) Developmnet of an agricultural higher education curriculum by strengthening entrepreneurship based on digital technology and communication technology, (2) Developmnet of precision agricuktural research that can support the use of the internet of things in agriculture to increase efficiency, productivity and quality of agricultural production, (3) Encouraging the growth of star-agribusiness supported capacity including 5 telecommunications to rural areas and agricultural institutions, (5) Involving rural young generation in the management of BUMDES which is oriented to development rural agribusiness. The efforts is expected to grow millennial/digital farmers with a highly competitive agropreneur/technoagropreneur character.
2. Innovation in Sustainable Agriculture
Sustainable agriculture is defined as an integrated agricultural system between renewable and unrenewable resources, including all stakeholders in supporting agricultural processes and production in quantity and quality. In addition, sustainable agriculture is also directed at an attitude of respect for the environment. Efforts to achieve and maintain these goals require production facilities that are environmentally friendly and sustainable. This is because food security and security have become important global issues to consider in efforts to enter the free world market. Generally the application of conventional farming systems that use a lot of chemicals. The agricultural system began to be known among farmers since 1970. The positive impact of the system has a significant increase in agricultural production, while the negative impact of environmental damage and health problems. To overcome these problems, agricultural innovations are needed that are developed by developing environmentally friendly agricultural technologies.
3. Information and Communication Technology for Agriculture
The challenges of climate change, scarcity of land and water, and ecosystem degradation and rising prices of fossil fuels need to be anticipated, one of which is by utilizing agricultural information system technology. The application of agricultural marketing information systems, IoT-based smart agriculture, precision agriculture, and artificial intelligence (AI) is believed to be able to improve food security, product competitiveness, and market opportunities and choices.
